Safe Surfing - Popcorn

The internet is a great place to enjoy, learn and hang out - but it's important to know how to have fun and stay safe at the same time. Read on for our quick guide to safe surfing...

You don't need to register to participate in any area of the Popcorn website - it's all free! You can also sign up to receive our occasional Popcorn newsletter by e-mail.

The information you give us when you leave a review, enter a competition or register for the Popcorn Newsletter is completely private and confidential and is accessible only to the people who operate the Popcorn website. We do not give or sell your information to anybody, ever.

On the wider internet, other good and safe sites may ask for a small amount of information about you when you register. This is usually so that they can give you the services you want, but it's a good idea to always ask your parents or guardian to check it out first. Some websites ask all kinds of questions about you and then sell the details to other businesses so that they can sell you things or keep e-mailing you. So beware!

Remember, at Popcorn that doesn't happen. Your details are private and we keep them that way.

You can help your details private too, by choosing a password that people will find it difficult to guess and by keeping it a secret!

Chat rooms are great fun. Everything on the Popcorn website is fully moderated, but if you ever use a public chat room, forum or message board you should always be aware that the person or people you are talking to might not be who or what they say they are. Always use your first name only, or a nickname, and never reveal your address, e-mail address or phone number.

If anyone upsets you in a chat room, or asks you questions you don't like, tell your parents, guardian or an adult you can trust straight away.

Never agree to meet anyone you have talked with over the internet, whether in a chat room, by e-mail or whatever, without your parents or guardian coming with you. Remember, people you talk to may not be who or what they say they are.

Check out the ThinkUKnow website for a more revealing look at why you should always surf safely.

The only official e-mail address for the Popcorn Web Team is popcorn@granadamedia.com. Don't accept any e-mails from anyone pretending to be from Popcorn who uses a different e-mail address.

We never take information from you without you knowing it. The Popcorn website does use cookies - we use them to control the number of advertisements you see. We also use them in our log statistics, so that we can work out which features of the site are most popular.
